Contact UsAn Alaia surfboard is a unique and eco-friendly surfboard that embraces the traditional Hawaiian design but is constructed using paulownia wood. This choice of wood has gained popularity among surfboard shapers and riders due to its excellent properties for board building.
Paulownia wood is a sustainable and renewable resource, making it an environmentally responsible choice for surfboard construction. The tree grows rapidly, making it an abundant and quickly replenishing source of wood. Its lightweight yet durable nature makes it an ideal material for shaping Alaia boards.
The use of paulownia wood in Alaia surfboards gives them a beautiful natural look, showcasing the rich grain patterns and warmth of the wood. These boards are typically handcrafted by skilled artisans who appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship involved in working with wood.
Surfing on a paulownia Alaia board offers a unique and rewarding experience. The board’s buoyancy and responsiveness in the water allow surfers to connect more intimately with the wave’s energy and truly feel the flow of the ocean. The absence of fins or other modern elements encourages riders to rely on their skills and balance, creating a deep connection with the waves in a pure and organic way.
Moreover, as paulownia is a lighter wood, Alaia surfboards made from this material provide a more nimble and maneuverable ride, allowing surfers to explore different lines and experiment with the wave’s power.
By choosing a paulownia Alaia surfboard, surfers not only embrace the heritage of traditional wave riding but also support sustainable practices in the surfing industry. It’s a nod to the past, a celebration of craftsmanship, and a step towards a greener and more conscious surfing future.
